The mouth was dredged open
in March 2009 (see photos below). It looks like the bars have
rendered it unpassable except for the smallest boats.

Note that there are breaking
bars across the entire mouth. It is unlikely to be navigable,
except by very small vessels, if at all.

The
mouth of the San Bernard River has
been dredged open. It has been closed for several years. It
looks
like the dredged is finished and that the project is de-mobilizing.
In time, the
dominant sediment transport to the south will
probably extend the mouth to the south as it did in the past and
eventually close again. Time will tell.
