A few days after tropical storm Hermine, Mansfield Pass is intermittantly breaking on the bar in the middle of the entrance channel.  The deepest part of the channel is probably right alongside of the north jetty.

Note the new fillet on the north side (bottom in the photo) where the dredged material was placed.  The beach had eroded so far that the inner end of the north jetty had nearly been flanked.

Note the bluff in the newly deposited dredge material where the sand is already being eroded and carried to the north.  The longshore drift here is strongly toward the north.

Note that the south jetty needs to be extended. Sediment is pouring into the channel and some is even bypassing the channel at the mouth.
