Where is the developer on record as the guaranteed bond buyer?
And again: If that is so, why doesn't he just finance the deal himself?
I know, because the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers won't get into deals with privateers.
But I'm sure that he could just as easily get the City Council to create an "improvement district" as a "tax increment finance district." What would that cost? Another $500 distributed to the City Council members and dinner for the city manager?

Or will you and the other apologists continue to offer this as the ONLY POSSIBLE WAY to get this done? It isn't the only way and everyone knows it.
If Mr. Houston (or Austin, depending on which paper you want to believe) Developer wants a canal, he can buy one. But taxpayers shouldn't buy it for him. And exactly what kind of jobs will be created in this fairy tale? Maintenance and yard men? Maids, groundskeepers and janitors?

Canal dredgers, for sure. Forever.

That is how long it will take to keep this canal open and how long it will take to keep this fairy tale alive.

And will the people who work these J0BS have benefits of any kind?
Health care insurance? Or will they wind up in the public hospitals when they are ill or injured and let the taxpayers pay for their care?
If taxpayers are going to pay for indigent care AND this fairy tale canal, shouldn't they -- at the very least -- get the benefit of health care insurance for the future holders of the mythical JOBS this fairy tale will create from the boondoggle's cheerleaders' dreams?
